Depending on where you are traveling from - whether northbound or southbound- you will arrive or depart Temple at 11:25 AM or 4:45 PM. Should you arrive by train at 11:25 AM, you'll have the perfect opportunity to grab a delicious lunch from a local restaurant and explore our ever-growing, diverse downtown district. 

Santa Fe Plaza

A short walk outside from the local Amtrak station, Santa Fe Plaza is a gorgeous open, green space where visitors can take in views of the Santa Fe Depot and local businesses. The space features water fountains visitors can walk by. We recommend stopping and taking a photo by these pretty fountains for your first stop off the train.

Lunch At A Local Restaurant

Our culinary downtown district features an assortment of excellent food options. You'll be planning your next trip to Temple by the end of the visit just to try more of our delicious food. Near the depot and the fountains is The Yard Food Truck Plaza. This local food truck plaza features several trucks offering a variety of cuisines and flavors. Visit The Yard website to learn more about the trucks and their individual schedules. Want to enjoy a meal indoors with air conditioning? Visit our local downtown restaurants. Whether you're in the mood for a gourmet burger, specialty pizza, steak, Italian, brunch favorites, or Vietnamese and Thai cuisine, downtown Temple can satisfy your tables for it all. Our local restaurants feature delicious food that will keep your bellies full and content.

Downtown Temple has a unique trail of sculptures you won't find anywhere else. Our miniature art trains scattered throughout the downtown district create a one-of-a-kind experience you won't want to miss. Each art train tells the history of a business, the local culture, the destination, and the artists who painted them. Find all the art trains in downtown Temple and capture a few selfies while you check out these vibrant, miniature sculptures. 

Outdoor Activities

Want some more outdoor fun while you explore downtown Temple? For those that play Pokemon Go, downtown Temple has many poke stops and gyms. Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum

As you get ready to head back home, make the Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum your last stop of the day. This local museum features permanent and rotating exhibits displaying Temple's history with the railroad, local Grammy-winning musicians, Temple High memorabilia, and rolling stock. 

Departure

While Temple will be sad to see you go, we are only a short train ride away from where you call home. Our destination will always have something new in store for you to come back to. The Amtrak track for departure will leave at 4:43 PM. We can't wait to see you when you visit Temple again!

Arrival

Are you ready for a family outing in Temple? Depending on where you are traveling from - whether northbound or southbound- you will arrive or depart Temple at 11:25 AM or 4:45 PM. For 11:25 AM arrivals, the Amtrak station is located conveniently on the other side of the Santa Fe Depot; you and your family can head out of the Amtrak station lobby and walk around to the entrance to the Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum.

Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum

If your children are avid train lovers, look no further than spending some time at the Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum. The museum features family-friendly exhibits both permanent and rotating. Permanent exhibits include great opportunities for children to learn more about the railroad, walk through rolling stock, and explore Temple's History. 

Treno 

Treno is the kid and mom-approved lunch spot you've been waiting for. With an outdoor playground and the cheesiest kid-size pizzas, this local restaurant will be a big win on your family trip. Order a $5 kids' pizza, a specialty pizza for you, and enjoy the family-friendly of a well-known local favorite. 

Temple Children's Museum

Temple Children's Museum is a great way to engage your younger children when you visit Temple. This museum features interactive play that encourages and develops cognitive, behavioral, and motor skills. Admission to the museum is affordable and provides your children with many great activities to participate in. Visit the Temple Children's Museum after a much-needed and delicious lunch break at Treno.

Art Train Trail

Our miniature art trains scattered throughout the downtown district create a one-of-a-kind experience you won't want to miss. Whistle Stop Park

This park is a free activity that with help burn off some of the never-ending energy young children seem to have. You'll be glad you stopped by this local park before heading back home on a train ride. The play time will keep the young ones from getting restless on the train. Whistle Stop Park is a beloved park to locals and visitors alike because of the train-themed play equipment and the perfect scenic views of the trains as they drive through Temple. You can see trains as they come and go and children love trying to get the attention of the train conductors to sound off the train horn. Enjoy a little downtown as the children play and have fun at this local park.

Departure

Now that you've given the children plenty of time to play and have fun in our destination, it's time to say goodbye for now to Temple and head home. The Amtrak station is a quick walk from Whistle Stop Park and the train will arrive at 4:43 PM. Temple can't wait to have you come visit again!
