Temple's convenient location makes it a getaway that feels like home. Our Amtrak train station is located in Temple's growing downtown district where visitors will find fun attractions, things to do, museums, and satisfyingly delicious meals from our locally-owned restaurants. Arrival

After boarding the train and departing your location, you'll take an enjoyable train ride to Temple. Depending on where you've boarded the train, the ride will be longer but just as worth it when you visit our city. The train arrives in Temple twice a day. Train travelers can track the status of their train by visiting the Amtrak website. Visitors can enter their train information and see if it will arrive on time. When you arrive in Temple, you'll be ready to get out and explore before enjoying a lunch break. 

 

Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum

The Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum is located in the Santa Fe Depot on the other side of the Amtrak station. The Temple Railroad &  Heritage Museum is open from 10 AM to 4 PM, Tuesday through Saturday. Its convenient location will make you want to check out this local attraction as soon as you arrive. The museum is home to historic rolling stock and permanent and rotating exhibits. You won't want to miss the historic rolling stock at the museum. The museum hosts special events throughout the year and is filled with artifacts, local memorabilia, and much more. 

Lunch

Downtown Temple has several excellent local restaurants to choose from. The downtown district is known for its culinary delights. Whether you're craving a burger, pizza, Asian cuisine, or sushi, downtown Temple has something for you to enjoy. Want to enjoy the warm weather and eat outside? Many of our local restaurants have patio seating available, or you can visit The Yard Food Truck Plaza to grab a meal from a local food truck. The food truck plaza is just a quick walk from the Santa Fe Depot. These food trucks offer meals and appetizers packed with flavors and feature a variety of cuisine types. The Yard food truck plaza provides picnic-style seating, shade, and options to choose from.  You'll enjoy any meal you have in downtown Temple.

Find Art Throughout Downtown Temple

Downtown Temple has several incredible murals and art train sculptures to see. The art trains are a spectacular addition to downtown Temple. These miniature train sculptures pay homage to Temple's history with the railroad. Each art train is designed by local artists and is unique to the businesses that have commissioned them. Each art train reflects on downtown Temple's community, history, and businesses. There are currently eight art trains in downtown Temple.

Sterle Fine Art Studio

The Sterle Fine Art Studio is located in a hundred-year-old historic home in the downtown district. The local artist, Susan Sterle, captures beautiful moments and special memories through her oil paintings. Visit her gallery to see her talent and artwork. 

Cha Community

If you need a mid-afternoon pick-me-up, Cha Community has tasty boba teas and baked goods offerings. Enjoy tapioca boba or popping boba in fruity flavors. Visitors can order various teas or try a lemonade or creamy drink. Cha Community is the perfect treat before the train ride back.

Outdoor Activities

Want some more outdoor fun while you explore downtown Temple? For those that play Pokemon Go, downtown Temple has many poke stops and gyms. Santa Fe Plaza Fountains

The Santa Fe Plaza fountains are a fun attraction for the whole family. These fountains feature several flowing water fountains that people of all ages can splash through or sit nearby and enjoy. The fountains are switched on from 11 AM to 1 PM and 3 PM to 4 PM.

Things To Do With Children

There's lots of fun to be had for children and their families visiting Temple. Stop by Whistle Stop Park for a train-themed playground, or let them play on the play equipment at Treno Pizzeria while you dine on specialty pizzas. The Temple Children's Museum features interactive play and stations designed to help children aged eight and under develop cognitive, behavioral, and motor skills. Departure

After a fun-filled afternoon in downtown Temple, it's time to head back to the local Amtrak station. Be sure to track your train status on the Amtrak website to stay informed of your trains departure time. Visitors will want to arrive at the station early to ensure they are on time for their incoming train.
