It's time to spill the tea. The moment we have all been waiting for is finally here.  Cha Community is gearing up to open its doors to the community at its newest location found right here in downtown Temple. Let’s take a moment to learn about our newest business to open in Temple's flourishing downtown district.

The Origin Story

Cha Community is a Waco-based business that got its start from the need for community.  One of Cha Community's goals is to create a welcoming and inviting environment. The owners of Cha Community, Devin and Jaja Li, value inclusion, community and connection. Cha Community began by operating as a small business vendor at the Waco farmers markets. During the last few years, Devin and Jaja were able to open their first storefront in Waco and have now expanded to include a storefront in our great city. Cha Community is setting up shop to serve the people of Temple and their grand opening will be here before you know it.

From Waco to Temple

Temple is located just over a half-hour away from Waco. After fulfilling several catering requests through local schools, organizations, and businesses, the co-owners of Cha Community decided it was time to explore the possibilities of opening a business in downtown Temple. The revitalization of the downtown district is causing more businesses to open and we couldn't agree more that Temple was the perfect spot for a second location of this local business.

A Business With Heart

Cha Community's co-owners value a sense of belonging and having a place for others in the area to connect. Cha Community focuses on  fostering a sense of community through food and tea. Cha Community has even hosted a few dumpling workshops at their establishment in Waco where people in the community came together, socialized, and learned the art of making authentic dumplings.  This business is so much more than your average joe.  With heart and passion for community engagement and representation, Cha Community puts its core values and mission first.  We can't wait to see what this boba tea shop will do for the community in Temple, Texas.

What Makes Cha Community Unique?

Where many businesses that sell boba tea use powder drink mixes for their teas, Cha Community focuses on offering premium boba. The business also offers curated, organic options like cane sugar, authentic matcha, and honey for natural sweetener in many of their drink options. Cha Community also considers themselves to be more of a social enterprise in which they want to spark change in the community and give the people a place where they can feel included and connect with others.

What is Boba?

Boba is a dessert originating from Taiwan. Boba comes in the form of small squishy tapioca balls with a chewy texture. Boba is created using tapioca flour, brown sugar, and caramel and is then added to loose-leaf teas and premium blends.

Fan-Favorite Drinks

The Milky Way, a thai tea with house sweetener and cream, is a must-try bestseller at their Waco location that will also be offered at the new location in Temple. Some other fan-favorite drinks include the Wacoco, coconut black tea with house sweetener and oat milk, and the Strawberry Matcha Latte, a matcha chatte with house-made strawberry puree.

Soft Opening Event at First Friday

Cha Community will be having a special soft opening event from 11 am - 8 pm on March 4th and will continue with those hours on Saturday, March 5th. The location for the new business is 7 N. Main St. right across the street from the City Hall. Cha Community will offer many flavors of boba tea which can also be ordered with or without the tapioca balls. They also plan to offer pan-fried dumplings, cold noodles, and other Taiwanese-style dishes in the future, but are making final preparations and installations of equipment. Follow DiscoverTemple and Cha Community to find out when you can expect to see food on the menu at Cha Community.

Come out to First Friday and try a boba tea drink to support this local business.  Can't make it to the soft-opening but really want to get your hands on one of these fun drinks? No worries! Cha Community will be hosting a Grand Opening soon enough! Stay tuned for more information.
