Summer has arrived, and hot temperatures are here to stay. It’s all fun and games until the temperatures hit 105. With many families and couples looking to get out and enjoy summer, it can be frustrating not being able to explore some of our stunning landscapes and trails when the temperature is too hot. Thankfully, we’ve got plenty of water features that will give you the opportunity to get outdoors and cool down amidst the harsh heat.

Cool Down at a Local Water Park

Temple is home to Lions Junction Family Water Park. This water park is family-friendly and open Tuesday - Saturday from 12 PM to 8 PM and Sunday from 12 PM to 6 PM. With splash pads and a splash zone, this water park has amenities that even the littlest of children can enjoy. The water park also features a three-story slide, pool, and lazy river. Let all your cares float away as you relax on the lazy river today. 

Summer Fun Water Park is another great water park located a short drive away in Belton. This water park is open Monday through Saturday from 11 AM to 6 PM and Sunday from 1 PM to 6 PM. Summer Fun features Adult Night events where guests can enjoy live music from DJs and bring their own drinks while enjoying a night at the park free of children. These events take place on specified nights after regular operating hours. Typically the events are held from 8 PM to midnight.

Make A Splash

Ferguson Park, Jaycee Park, Miller Park, and West Temple Park each have splash pads that are fun for the whole family, but especially the children. All the splash pads are open until October 2. Splash pads offer a free option to jump in the water and cool down. Each park's splash pad features obstacles visitors can walk through or around to get splashed by the water. There's nothing like a fun splash zone to keep you cool this summer.

There are several pools in Temple that families can enjoy this summer. The affordable pools allow children and adults of all ages to jump in the water and cool off on a hot day. 

Clark Pool

In Wilson Park, Clark Pool is open from 12 PM to 6 PM on Thursday through Sunday. The pool is closed Monday through Wednesday for swim lessons. The admission fee to swim at this pool is $1 per child and $2 per adult.

Summit Recreation Center Pool

The Summit Recreation Center Pool is open Wednesday through Monday until August 14. Hours of operation for the pool are 12 PM to 6 PM. A membership to Summit Recreation Center is required.

Walker Pool

The Walker Pool is located at 2603 N 3rd St. This outdoor pool is open Thursday through Tuesday from 12 PM to 6 PM. A small admission fee of $2 per child and $3 per adult applies.

Sammons Park Indoor Pool

Swimming outside is fine, but why not swim at an indoor pool in Temple? Sammons Park Indoor Pool offers instructed and non-instructed classes and open swim time. This indoor pool will let you enjoy a good swim without the outdoor heat and sunburns.

Santa Fe Plaza Fountains

The Santa Fe Plaza fountains are a gorgeous addition to the Santa Fe Plaza in the downtown district. Children of all ages love to race through the fountains while they are out enjoying an event at the plaza or just stopping by to splash around the fountains. Keep an eye on the schedule to know when the fountains will be active.

Fountain Hours:

7 AM to 9:30 AM; 11 AM to 1 PM; 3 PM to 4 PM; 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM

Leisure Fun on Belton Lake

Belton Lake provides the perfect starting point for a fun-filled day for the whole family. Many access points to Belton Lake are free and have boat ramps and docks where you can board your boat, fish in designated fishing areas, or swim in the lake's calm waters. Visitors can rent boats, kayaks, or paddle boards at Frank's Marina to enjoy some exciting activities on the lake. Try stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, or exploring the lake by boat on your next trip to Bell County. 

BLORA is an outdoor recreation area at Belton Lake. There is a gate fee associated with entering this recreation area. Guests can participate in activities like boating, shoreline fishing, camping, horseback riding, hiking or biking, paintball, team challenge courses, or race to the top of a climbing wall. Many of these activities are available by reservation only. Horseback riding, paintball, team challenge course, and climbing wall require reservations but are great fun for the family.
