The Destination Marketing team for the City of Temple received two first place Texas Destination Excellence Awards at the recent Texas Association of Convention & Visitors Bureau (TACVB) annual conference. The awards are for outstanding contributions to destination management in Texas.
One first place award was for Website Design and Effectiveness. This category submission was judged on features such as mapping, search filters, user-personalization, and the integration of a broad range of social media channels. The reviewers focused on the creative implementation of the destination’s brand and whether the website was visually pleasing, unique, and if the website captured the spirit of the destination. The competitive criteria evaluation also included the necessary technical innovation and analytics such as the number of unique visitors, bounce rate, time on site, relevant searches, and signals of intent to travel. Given that the new destination website (combining the Discover Temple and the Downtown Temple websites together) just launched in March, the results were impressive enough to the judges to award first place.
The other first-place award was in the category of Leisure/Tourism Marketing Campaigns. The Destination Marketing team’s ‘Discover YOUR Temple’ campaign is directed to the general and regional and local travel audience and is social media/influencers focused. The campaign not only generates significant interest, but also provides additional user generated content (UGC) for use on the destination website through the CrowdRiff portal. Content/images obtained through the campaign have been, and will continue to be, useful in marketing efforts such as digital advertising, social media, print ads, and even visitor fulfillment materials.
Analytics continue to show excellent results through returns to the destination and downtown websites, social media engagement and useful UGC content.
