Father’s Day In Temple

Father’s Day Weekend In Temple

Father’s Day is right around the corner.  This special holiday celebrates all the beloved dads and fathers by making sure they feel especially loved.  Father’s Day takes place on June 20th, 2021.  With this holiday coming up soon, its time to think about how you can celebrate the fathers in your life.  Between local dining restaurants and activities, Temple has plenty to make the holiday fun. At Discover Temple, we believe dads deserve to celebrate the entire weekend.  Let’s kick off Father’s Day with some special events happening on Saturday night.

Saturday Activities

If you want a head start on Father’s Day celebrations, take the family to Bird Creek Burger Co. for a hearty, savory lunch.  American classics like hamburgers and fries are always a hit, so why not take it a step further and offer them lunch at a gourmet-style burger restaurant?  Bird Creek Burger Co. is a local, downtown Temple restaurant with delicious, flavorful entrees.  After lunch, take a minute to relax and enjoy some quality time together at home or out shopping in Temple while you wait for the next big activity to start.

The Great Race is a fun, exciting classic car rally that makes pit stops through various towns on the ten-day journey to the finish line.  Temple is The Great Race’s first overnight stop on the tour this year.  Head to Santa Fe Plaza to meet and greet drivers and their coordinators. While there take a look at some vintage, classic cars ranging from 1916 to 1973.

After you’ve had your fun checking out the classic cars that can be found at this checkpoint,  head over to Belton for a fun night of entertainment at Bold Republic Brewing Co.  Bold Republic is hosting an event for all the dads in the Bell County area.  The event on Saturday is Father’s Day Name That Tune Bingo.  Purchasing a $2 bingo card will grant you access to hours of entertainment and opportunities to win prizes like free beer. Free beer?  Dads everywhere will swoon.  This lively, local brewing company’s event is sure to be a hit with every dad.

Sunday Morning Activities

On the day of Father’s Day, get a kickstart to the day by treating dad to a cup of coffee from another downtown favorite, First Street Roasters.  After you are done drinking some hot, caffeinated coffee, head over to Crossroads Park for a free family activity of disc golf.  With several courses in the area, disc golf is a fun pastime for local Temple and Belton residents.  Crossroads Disc Golf course is a fun course to try with the family.  With 27 holes, and a mixture of open and wooded areas, dads will find this course to be a fun challenge they are ready to conquer.  This activity is likely to entertain the family for hours if you want to try to get through all 27 holes in the course.

Next, take a midday lunch break.  Pizza is a classic dish that dads and families enjoy.  Head over to Treno Pizzeria and Taproom for some creative and customizable pizza options. Some specialty pizzas are local favorite such as the Smokey Bird, Margherita, and the King Brisket.

Sunday Afternoon Activities:

After this delicious meal, head over to the neighboring city of Belton for a lake day afternoon.  Belton Lake has several access points for boat ramps. At these access points, there are trails, fishing spots, and swimming areas.  For dads who love the outdoors, this is an activity they will thoroughly enjoy.  Bring your fishing and outdoors supplies and take a few hours to relax and have a good time out on the water.

The downtown district of Belton is where you will find the perfect spot, Miller’s Smokehouse. This barbecue restaurant is dad-worthy.  Nothing beats a good brisket or pulled pork, and at Miller’s Smokehouse there’s plenty of barbecue items to choose from.  Family dinner here is an excellent choice to wow and excite dad at the prospect of a great barbecue meal.

And for the dads that are still full of energy and ready for more,  head over to Spare Time for a night of bowling, laser tag, or arcade games.  Additionally, Spare Time offers a daily special called Sunday Funday.  You can grab some shoes and bowl all day for only $9.99 a person.  If you’re looking for more reasons to head outdoors, Spare Time also has several outdoor activities for the family such as batting cages, go karts, ropes course, and sand volleyball. Let the fathers feel like kings of the competition at this fun family activity.

Fathers Are For Celebrating

Father’s Day can be celebrated through many activities.  Dads can spend the day doing activities such as eating good food, relaxing at the lake, or battling it out on arcade games.  Whatever you decide to do this Father’s Day, make the most of this time together.  Dads will enjoy the time spent with some of their favorite people and the memories that are made.  Happy Father’s Day!

Freshness Of Farmers Markets

Summer is just around the corner and with it comes a need for time outside enjoying the warm weather that has finally arrived.  With the weekends longing to be filled with amusements and things to do, there’s no better time to explore the outdoors through local market events.  With an abundance of farmers in Bell County, it comes as no surprise that farmers markets are a summer staple. The local farmers, bakers, and crafters come together to sell their home-grown and homemade goods.  If you long for a day full of shopping and supporting county farmers, Temple is the place to be.

Temple Farmers Markets

Officially open for the season, the Farmers Market at West Temple Park hosts events on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Located at 121 Montpark Rd, this market is a much-needed stop on your tour of Bell County’s best farmers markets.  The frozen food sitting at home doesn’t sound as appetizing with the variety of local options mere steps away.  Rich in flavor and fresh off the farm, locally grown produce is the real treat at these market days.  Additionally, The Downtown Temple Farmers Market offers another great opportunity to sample your soon-to-be favorite local farmers’ fruits and vegetables.  This special event is typically held once a month in the City Hall Parking Lot.  The upcoming farmers markets are held on the second Saturday of each month from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

These farmers markets provide a lovely escape from a busy work week with a morning of shopping for local treats.  Summer days are for making memories, as well as soaking up a little vitamin D and taking the day easy. What is the secret to taking care of all three of these checkpoints in one activity? Stopping by a local farmers market.  You can enjoy the outdoors in addition to casually strolling around the booths overflowing in produce with unique flavors and aromas. It is easy to make these events memories to last. With their assortment of home-grown produce, sweet jams, and savory snacks, the local farmers markets are sure to leave you feeling content and anxiously awaiting the next one.

Belton Farmers Markets

Along with the farmers markets being held around Temple, events have started in the surrounding cities of Belton and Salado.  Located just a short drive away, these farmers markets keep the excitement fresh and provide a change of scenery with new locations and vendors.  Belton holds several farmers markets throughout the month . On every third Saturday of the month, Belton Market Days takes place.  From 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. take a stroll through Downtown Belton for locally harvested honey, homemade salsas, and vibrant, flavorful vegetables.

While some of the farmers markets occur once monthly, a few host market days several times throughout the month. For instance, the Water Street Farmers Market is held every Saturday and located in the heart of Downtown Belton. This market boasts an array of vendors, including jewelry and craft-makers, and hearty items like chicken jerky and goat cheese. Similarly, the Bell County Farmers Market is another fantastic stop, holding events on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays starting at 7:00 a.m. This market is held at various locations in Belton and Temple. For more information regarding locations for market days, the Bell County Farmers Market Facebook page regularly updates the location details. Plan an early morning trip here to get the best pick of the crops.

Salado Farmers Markets

Located less than a half-hour away, the Barrow Brewing Co. is continuing with their market days.  Barrow Brewing started their market days in 2020.  With new vendors ready to participate, Barrow Brewing has decided to open again for the season from April to September.  These events are held on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  What’s more, the adults in your circle can stop in and sample some local craft beers as you walk around, enjoy the day, and see what the vendors have to offer.

Rogers and Troy Farmers Markets

Located in Rogers, Texas the Central Texas Farmers Market is held on May 31, 2021.  This farmers market is a semi-annual event and boasts over 40 vendors.  This market has activities for everyone.  One activity the children will enjoy is learning about the bees found on the Walker Honey Farm.  The Central Texas Farmers Market offers raffle drawings for prizes as an incentive when you make purchases at vendor booths.  Each vendor purchase awards you a raffle ticket towards prize drawings that happen throughout the day.  For pet-owners who want to spend the day with their four-legged friends, the Walker Honey Farm also allows leashed dogs on the grounds. This special occasion is fun for the whole family and one that will be the talk of the county for the remainder of the season.

For those wanting a more intimate gathering, the city of Troy hosts a market day that still gives the opportunity to shop local, while sticking to a smaller scale of size. This farmers market is located on 201 E Main St. in Troy and runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. Though on the smaller side compared to some of the bigger markets in the area, this market boasts having caring and passionate vendors as well as plenty of arts and crafts to see.

Farmers Markets Are a Must-See Event

Market days are truly a joyful experience. Not only can you take pride in the fact that you are helping to support local farmers and small businesses, but you also get to spend the days surrounded by the delicious smell of local, wholesome foods, and enrich yourself in the flavors that commercial quality produce can’t quite replicate. With many cities in the Bell County area participating in hosting farmers market events, there are enough markets to sightsee and participate in for the duration of the season. Enjoy your weekends with a day in the sun and a taste of Temple.
