The Holidays Are Near
We are in the home stretch of 2021 and it is finally the holiday season. We all know the drill. The holidays sneak up on you one after the other. And as fun as holidays are, they can be very stressful. Discover Temple is here to give you all the information you need to prep for the holiday events hosted throughout the season and give you the inside scoop on all things Christmas in Temple! Take some of the holiday stress away by getting a head start on your plans. Here’s a handy tip for you: buy tickets early for any ticketed events you know you’d like to go to. Tickets for holiday events can sell out quickly! Make sure you are up to date with social media pages and websites so you can know when tickets go on sale and when events are happening.
Destination: Christmas in Downtown
In the beginning week of December, First Friday in Downtown Temple will take place. This event gives visitors the perfect excuse to head to the downtown district and explore all the incredible businesses as well as the possibilities of more to come. With all the buildings decorated for the holidays and the Christmas lights on display, walking through our downtown scene will be a stunning sight to see. Not to mention, there’s nothing like a gorgeous lit-scenery of festive lights and décor to get you in the holiday spirit!
Also in the downtown district of Temple, visitors can stop by to attend the special Downtown Holiday Market on December 11th from 2 pm to 7 pm. This fantastic event is the perfect time to shop for gifts for the whole family. With plenty of local vendors with all kinds of goods for sell, this market day will give you time to enjoy shopping for the holiday season. Our neighboring city of Belton also has their own holiday market event taking place on November 20th. Be sure to check out these farmers markets for more local goodies that make the perfect stocking stuffers.
For another fun-filled holiday shopping event check out the Sami Show held at the Bell County Expo Center. The Sami Show will be held on December 11th. This arts and crafts show has vendors from all over with their own unique crafts and more.
Santa At the Depot
Santa At the Depot will take place on Saturday, December 4th at the Santa Fe Depot. The event is fun for the whole family and the children will love the opportunity to see Santa! Put on your pajamas and get ready to enjoy a magical evening with Santa! Visitors will have the opportunity to see the light displays on the Santa Fe Plaza and enjoy Christmas music. While you wait to see Santa, you can buy a scrumptious hot chocolate treat from Kona Ice and celebrate the magic of the holiday season. Tickets are on sale now for Santa at the Depot. Be sure to grab yours before they sell out!

Music and Carols
For fans of live music and entertainment, visitors can buy tickets to the Todd Snider concert held in the Cultural Activities Center (CAC). Tickets can be purchased on the CAC website. This concert is part of the Cultural Activities Center’s Texas Music series showcase. For another excellent concert, and one with an extra special holiday setlist, check out the Temple Symphony Orchestra. This local orchestra is hosting a special concert in honor of the holidays. This concert takes place on December 4th at the Temple High School. Tickets for this special concert can be purchased here.
And for fans of ballet, visitors will want to grab tickets to a special performance. The Texas Nutcracker production will be performed by the Classical Ballet Conservatory. This production brings a lovely Texas twist to a ballet classic. Tickets can be purchased through the CAC website. There is a showing of the production each night from December the 10th through the 12th.

75th Annual Christmas Parade
Discover Temple is hosting a Social Media Countdown. This countdown takes place through the Discover Temple Facebook page and will countdown to Temple Parks and Recreation’s 75th Annual Christmas Parade event. This Social Media Countdown is for visitors and locals alike. Each day Discover Temple will post in the Facebook event page with a new 12 days of Christmas photo. Visitors and locals are invited to participate by finding the location of the photo and taking their own, unique photographs. Show us your holly jolly Christmas spirit and holiday cheer! The countdown ends with the spectacular 75th Annual Christmas Parade event that takes place on Monday, December 6th at 6:00 pm. With a new theme every year, this event is a favorite among locals and is a beloved Christmas tradition.
Boots, Hometowns, and Cowboy Santa
Another local Holiday favorite is the Reuben D. Talasek Bend of the River Christmas event. The event takes place on December 18th from 11 am to 3 pm at the Reuben D. Talasek Bend of the River grounds. This hometown holiday event features snow slides, a chance to meet Cowboy Santa, a snow party, and tons of other great activities and delicious, tasty treats! Tickets are $5 per person!
Let There Be Nature In Lights
It’s always a great idea to get out and explore the outdoors, but the colder weather can make that difficult as the snow starts falling. However, The B.L.O.R.A.’s Nature In Lights trail is an excellent way to explore the outdoor scenery and bring in the Christmas cheer! This five-mile trail features all kinds of themed light displays. One of the best – and certainly among the most cherished – family traditions is heading out to look at all the Christmas lights. At just $15 for the entrance fee, this lit trail is a sight you’ll be craving for years to come.
The B.L.O.R.A. also hosts a Santa’s Village and Depot scenic area that will be open in December. This incredible area has a climbing wall as well as toy and food vendors. With hot cocoa, holiday treats, novelties, pictures with Santa, and more, its no surprise this event is a favorite for visitors and locals alike! People come from all over to witness the incredible displays within this nature scene. Nature In Lights at the B.L.O.R.A. runs from November 12th to January 2nd.
Salado Glassworks is also doing ornament crafting events during the months of November and December. Artists can choose from two ornament categories to create. The basic ornaments cost $55 per person and the “extra” ornaments that include swirls and other customizable design ideas cost $65 per person. These exciting events sell out quickly so be sure to book tickets as soon as you can. To reserve your spot, check out the Salado Glassworks website.
Robinson Family Christmas
The Robinson Family Farm is selling Fraser Fir Christmas trees and wreaths starting November 20th. Come out to the farm to enjoy a hot mulled cider or hot cocoa as well as take photos with the gorgeous trees! The farm is open for the tree-buying season until they run out of Fraser Firs. You’ll want to plan to stop by the farm early on if you’re looking to purchase a tree or wreath. For more information on this holiday opportunity to see the farm, check out the website here.
