Role at Discover Temple:

Senior Sales & Marketing Specialist

My responsibilities include identifying and targeting qualified groups capable of generating a positive economic impact through conferences, meetings, tradeshows, and sporting events. It’s essential that the individual in this position develops a close working relationship with local hospitality partners, community stakeholders, and event organizers, as well as maintaining a personal knowledge of the changes and new developments in the Temple and Bell County area.

I represent the destination at consumer shows, conferences, and industry events, prepare formal proposals for potential group meetings, conduct familiarization tours and client site inspections, and maintain the CRM database.

Area of Focus:

My market areas of focus are corporate groups, Associations, Sports Markets, Tradeshows, and special events.

Favorite Type of Group:

My favorite market type is Associations because of the incredible variety of events the Associations bring – everything from Texas Basketweaver’s Association to Texas Christmas Tree Growers Association and the National Model Railroad Association, to name just a few. You never know what type of meeting/group you’ll be working with next!

Favorite Group Booked:

The Great Race (an extensive collection of vintage cars that stopped overnight in Temple on a race that traveled through 8 different states).

Why Having a Sales Department is Important?

With the recruitment of meetings, conferences, and sporting events, the sales department brings in many visitors that generate economic impact through hotel room stays, eating in restaurants, and even filling up at the gas station. Many details are to be considered by a planner/tournament director when coordinating a multi-day event, and the sales department can provide vital information on venues, local amenities, and activities.

How Long Have You Been With The City And In Your Role?

I began employment with the City of Temple’s Destination Sales Office in July 2011. My certifications include Texas Destination Marketer and Certified Association Sales Executive.

When you love your community, you love your job of promoting the community!

Role at Discover Temple:

Sales & Marketing Specialist

I am a Sales and Marketing Specialist with the City of Temple. I have a handful of responsibilities within this role. I work to sell the City of Temple as a destination to visitors, provide information to those who call our phone line or request online through the website, i.e., brochures, experiences, lodging, etc., organize our fulfillment material, and continue to maintain relationships with current accounts.

Area of Focus:

I work with the SMERF Market. SMERF stands for all events relating to social (birthdays, weddings, baby showers, etc.), military, education, religious, and fraternity groups.

Favorite Type of Group:

I think my favorite type of event to book is military balls. I enjoy how each unit has been easy and quick to work with. Typically, their events occur during the week, so I love to drop by the Frank W. Mayborn Civic & Convention Center and see their image of their event come to fruition. These military units know how to have a blast at their events!

Favorite Group Booked:

My favorite group that I have booked would be the Elite Comic Con. This was my first multi-day event at the Frank W. Mayborn Civic & Convention Center. I also enjoyed that this event was booked because it was unique and unlike anything I had booked previously.

Why Having a Sales Department Is Important?

I think that sales are vital in any aspect of life. I will say that personally being the point of contact between a prospect and our venue before the contracting process is critical. So many prospects are researching and gathering information about different venues for their upcoming event, and it can be very overwhelming. Most of the prospects I work with have many questions; what I enjoy is how I can answer, help, and ease any and all of their worries. I want the prospects to understand the value of our business and communicate the services that we offer. Then hopefully, once they receive all the information, they will want the Frank W. Mayborn Civic & Convention Center to be their venue.

How Long Have You Been With The City And In Your Role?

I have been in my position as a Sales and Marketing Specialist with the City of Temple for almost a year already! Time flies by when you are having fun!

I look forward to a continued relationship with the Communications & Marketing Department and potentially growing into different positions!
